Find mentors for people in your team to help them be successful. You can’t be their mentor for all of their needs.

Step 1

Understand what each person is looking for. Example areas of growth include:

  • Technical growth
  • Ability to influence people
  • Ownership
  • Ability to successfully work on large projects
  • General career growth and management

Step 2

Use your network in the company to find a good mentor that can help with the specific areas of growth. Agree with the mentor on the parameters of the mentorship (duration, areas of focus, commitment, etc).

Step 3

Set expectations with the mentor and the mentee independently, make sure they are aligned and then connect them.

Step 4

Periodically check in both of them on how the relationship is progressing and evaluate its usefulness.
